Villa Savoye Study

The Villa Savoye was my first model ever created, so it holds a special memory for me. This sketch and model duo was created for an assignment in my high school architecture class in which we researched a famous architect and their creations. We selected one design to either model or sketch; I wanted to challenge myself to create both. I chose Le Corbusier not only because I love his style, but also because my architect grandfather found inspiration in his work. Villa Savoye is a vacation home that Le Corbusier was hired to design for the Savoye family in 1930. I love the crisp, clean look of this home; the white walls covered in windows, the pillars that support most of the home, and the space on the roof that is unlike anything I had ever seen. To create the sketch, I found a reference photo of the villa and converted it into a two-point perspective drawing. For the model I researched the dimensions of every part of the home and developed a scale that worked for me; it took a few iterations before I was ultimately satisfied with the model.
